Unlocking Organizational Potential

Featuring Townspeople

When SVP met Melissa Peterman, Executive Director of Townspeople, the nonprofit was moving full steam ahead with a strategic planning process and the implementation of several operational upgrades. A consulting team offered intention and process, allowing Townspeople’s leadership to slow down and prioritize improvements – unlocking the organization’s potential.

Lead Partner John Fry, along with Don Duford and Josh Maher were inspired by Townspeople’s mission to provide San Diegans with vital assistance during a housing crisis. The laser-focus of its leadership to deliver upon this mission was also a key factor in joining the project. Collectively, the SVP team brought decades of experience in operations, business management, and technology to play with Peterman’s passion and relentless pursuit of stability for those living with HIV/AIDS and other medical vulnerabilities.

Townspeople invited the SVP to support them in developing a plan to engage community stakeholders amid an ongoing strategic planning process. The team helped identify key informants and shared sample surveys to successfully elicit feedback on the nonprofit’s strategy. Peterman reflected that, “[SVP’s] expertise showed us the value of slowing down and thinking through our strategic vision process, helping everything feel less overwhelming and more achievable.”

SVP Partners also stepped in alongside the nonprofit’s Asset Management and Support Services staff to assess internal operational efficiencies. Using a time and activity exercise as a basis for operational assessment focused on the nonprofit’s recent systems improvements, they developed a list of short and medium-term priorities for staff along with potential key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress.

“Thanks to the support of [SVP], Townspeople is now confident in our direction and better equipped to deliver upon our mission.” -Melissa Peterman, Executive Director.

Organizational potential - unlocked.
